Magnesium for Migraine Prevention: What the Evidence Shows

Magnesium may help prevent migraine for some people, but the evidence is limited and it is not a guaranteed treatment. Discuss a trial with a clinician or pharmacist, especially because doses studied for migraine can exceed the usual upper limit for supplemental magnesium. Prevention also differs from treating an attack that has already started.

The practical question is not simply whether magnesium is “good for headaches.” It is whether a particular preparation, amount and review plan fits your migraine pattern, health, medicines and preferences. An over-the-counter label does not remove the need to make those decisions carefully.

Riboflavin and CoQ10: Supplement Evidence Reviewed

Riboflavin and coenzyme Q10 have some evidence for migraine prevention, but neither is a guaranteed solution or an established substitute for an acute treatment plan. The studies include small trials, and results do not identify the best choice for an individual. Discuss suitability, interactions, product details and a review date with a healthcare professional before starting.

A useful comparison goes beyond asking which supplement is “stronger.” Consider what was studied, what outcome matters to you and whether taking the product consistently would be practical. An inexpensive bottle can still be poor value if the trial has no clear purpose or never gets reviewed.
