Pressure and weather in Winter Garden

Winter Garden lies on the southern rim of Lake Apopka in the low sandy ridge country of central Florida, roughly 80 kilometres from either coast. That interior position is exactly what makes its summers so electric. From June through September sea breezes advance inland from both the Gulf and the Atlantic through the afternoon, and the interior of the peninsula is where the two fronts meet and force air violently upward. The collision zone produces the highest thunderstorm and lightning frequency in the United States, with storms on most afternoons through the wet season and sharp local pressure changes from their outflow boundaries. Unlike the coastal cities, Winter Garden faces no storm surge risk during hurricane season, but it is far from immune: systems crossing the peninsula weaken only slowly over the flat wet ground, and the inland wind and flooding rain can be severe well after landfall. Winter is dry, mild and stable, with occasional cold fronts sliding down the peninsula and delivering the only cool, crisp air of the year.

What this means for you

Interior central Florida sees more thunderstorm days than almost anywhere else, so summer barometric pressure here is noisy with local outflow. The genuine deep falls come only when a tropical system crosses the peninsula, which a barometric pressure forecast will flag well in advance.
