Cedar City sits at nearly 5,800 feet in Iron County in southwestern Utah, on the edge of the Great Basin where the Hurricane Cliffs rise to the Markagunt Plateau and the red amphitheater of Cedar Breaks. It is a high, dry place, and the thin air means the station pressure is much lower than the sea-level values in most forecasts, often around 820 hectopascals.
