Delta occupies the southwest corner of metropolitan Vancouver, built on the low alluvial land where the Fraser River empties into the Strait of Georgia. Much of the municipality lies barely above sea level across Ladner and Tsawwassen, with Burns Bog at its centre and Boundary Bay along the southern shore facing the Washington border. Only Burnaby and Richmond separate it from Vancouver proper, and the ferry terminal at Tsawwassen looks straight out across the strait to Vancouver Island.
