Pressure and weather in Turlock
Turlock sits in the middle of the San Joaquin Valley, on flat irrigated farmland between the Coast Ranges to the west and the Sierra Nevada to the east, both high enough to seal the valley off from the weather on either side. That enclosure produces two extremes. In summer a persistent ridge parks over the interior, temperatures run past forty degrees Celsius for days at a stretch, and the barometric trace is almost motionless, with the delta breeze arriving in the evening as the only dependable change. In winter the valley becomes a cold air trap.
