Notifications
Pressure Pal can warn you before a rapid pressure change and send you one summary per day. The alerts are worked out on our servers from the same forecast the chart uses, so they arrive even when the app is closed.
Open them from Settings > Notifications inside the app.
Pressure Alerts
A pressure alert is sent about one hour before an hour in which the pressure is forecast to change faster than your chosen sensitivity.
- Direction: Rising, Falling, or Rising and Falling. Pick the one that matches your triggers. If you are not sure yet, keep both and compare the alerts with your symptom log for a few weeks.
- Sensitivity: how big a change per hour has to be before you are alerted.
| Sensitivity | iPhone | Android |
|---|---|---|
| High (more alerts) | 0.3 mbar per hour | 0.4 mbar per hour |
| Medium (default) | 0.6 mbar per hour | 0.6 mbar per hour |
| Low (fewer alerts) | 0.8 mbar per hour | 0.9 mbar per hour |
The settings screen shows these values in whatever pressure unit you use. 1 mbar is the same as 1 hPa.
After an alert there is a pause of about six hours before the next one, so a long stormy afternoon gives you one warning rather than a stream of them.
Daily Summary
One notification per day with the outlook for the next 24 hours: the overall trend and the hours with the biggest changes. Choose the time you want it under Summary time. The default is 8:30 in the morning.
Quiet Hours
No alerts are sent during quiet hours. The default is from 22:00 to 07:00. If there are rapid changes forecast for the night, you get a short summary shortly before quiet hours begin instead of being woken up.
Not getting notifications?
- Check the phone permission. On iPhone: Settings > Notifications > Pressure Pal, allow notifications. On Android: long-press the app icon > App info > Notifications.
- Open the app and check that Pressure Alerts is switched on in Settings > Notifications. If the phone permission was off, the app shows a banner on the main screen with a shortcut to fix it.
- Alerts are only sent when a change bigger than your sensitivity is in the forecast. A calm week means no alerts. Set sensitivity to High if you want to see them more often.
- Quiet hours suppress alerts. If yours cover most of the day, shorten them.
- Battery savers and Focus modes on the phone can hold notifications back. Make sure Pressure Pal is allowed through.
Getting the same alert more than once?
Each phone or tablet that has the app installed receives its own copy of every alert. If you reinstalled the app or restored a phone from a backup, an old registration can linger for a while and you may see duplicates. Update to the latest version and, if it keeps happening after a few days, write to hello@pressurepal.app with the email or user ID from the app so we can clean it up on our side.
