Pressure and weather in Hart
Hart lies in the flat basin of the Danube beyond Linz, where the Alpine foreland runs north to meet the granite uplands of the Mühlviertel. This corner of Upper Austria is shaped by two very different influences. Atlantic fronts arriving from the west bring the routine changes, and around them the föhn can set up, a warm dry downslope wind off the Alps that is widely blamed in this part of Europe for headaches and restlessness and that carries a distinctive pressure signature. The other influence comes from the south, where lows forming over the Gulf of Genoa track around the eastern end of the Alps. Those systems, when they take the so-called Vb path, are responsible for the region's serious summer flooding and bring long, deep pressure declines. Winter adds a third pattern: cold air settles in the basin under high pressure and produces days of fog and inversion with a very steady barometer.
