Henrietta lies in the Genesee valley a few miles south of Rochester, close enough to Lake Ontario to sit in its snowbelt but far enough inland that the lake does not moderate the cold the way it does at the shoreline. Winter runs long here and is defined by two separate things. The first is the parade of low pressure systems crossing the Great Lakes from the west and south-west, which bring genuine pressure falls, often several in a single week from November through February.
