Pressure and weather in Horizon West
Horizon West spreads across the sandy uplands of south-west Orange County, among the lakes of the Butler chain and close to the divide that sends water either east to the St Johns or west toward the Gulf. Like the rest of the central peninsula, its summer is governed by sea breezes: one pushing inland from the Atlantic, another from the Gulf, meeting over the interior most afternoons from June into September and producing the highest lightning frequency in the country. Each storm brings its own brief pressure bump as cool outflow spreads out beneath it. The genuinely large changes come during hurricane season, from August through October, when systems crossing the peninsula produce sustained declines lasting many hours even well inland. The dry season from November through April is a different climate altogether, with long settled spells broken by cold fronts that sweep through, drop the temperature, and push the barometer up sharply behind them.
