Fraser sits on the level clay lake plain of Macomb County, a few miles inland from the shallow water of Lake St. Clair and within the wider basin that connects Lake Huron to Lake Erie. Being surrounded by water on three sides at the regional scale gives southeastern Michigan a distinctly moderated climate, with later autumn frosts and cooler lake-cooled spring afternoons than places the same distance north inland. The pressure record is driven by the Great Lakes storm track, with lows moving northeast from the Ohio valley or the central plains, and by clippers dropping southeast from Alberta in the depths of winter.
