Glasco is an old bluestone shipping hamlet on the west bank of the Hudson, sitting on the narrow river flats with the Catskill escarpment climbing steeply a dozen miles inland. That position between a tidal river valley and a substantial mountain range gives the mid-Hudson a weather character all its own. Coastal storms tracking north from the mid-Atlantic ride up the valley and can deliver very heavy snow here while New York City sees rain, because cold air drains south down the valley and lingers below the warm air aloft.
